What Is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a safe, gentle, and effective therapy. It uses minute doses of natural substances to stimulate the body to heal itself, according to the principle that like cures like. For example, onions will induce streaming eyes and nose; but, taken in homeopathic potency, they will alleviate conditions with those symptoms (such as colds or hay fever).

Homeopathic treatment is holistic, considering the patient as an individual physically, mentally, and emotionally. The remedies can be taken alongside medication prescribed by a doctor, herbalist, or other practitioner. They work with the body, have no toxic side effects, and are not addictive.

How Can Homeopathy Help Me?

As a therapy it can be used both as a complement and an alternative to conventional medical treatment. It is a safe and effective system of healing for both acute and chronic conditions; and it may be used to complement other therapies such as osteopathy, cranial osteopathy and physiotherapy.

A wide range of conditions can be helped, including :-
  • childhood illnesses
  • skin conditions
  • respiratory disorders
  • heart and circulatory conditions
  • gastro-intestinal conditions
  • female disorders
  • male disorders
  • muscular skeletal conditions
  • allergies
  • mental and emotional difficulties
  • pregnancy, childbirth and breast feeding

What Happens During A Treatment?

In the first consultation, the homeopath will seek a full picture of the patient's condition. This will include taking a personal and family medical history, and asking questions about :-
  • the nature of the condition
  • sleep patterns
  • emotional responses
  • stress
  • food preferences
and so on

This will help the therapist to choose a remedy (or remedies) to suit the patient's particular needs.

Follow-up consultations will be at intervals appropriate to the condition and the patient. The total number of consultations will depend on the condition being treated and on the patient's response to treatment.

Relief in acute ailments can be very fast. In more long-term cases, patients often feel better in themselves even before recovery becomes apparent.
