What Is Chiropody
And Podiatry?

Chiropodists specialise in treating ailments of the leg. Podiatrist is the internationally recognised name for foot specialists. Many chiropodists now call themselves podiatrists.

How Can Chiropody Or Podiatry Help Me?

People of all ages may suffer from various foot disorders. Some health problems (such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis or poor circulation) can make deterioration of the feet more likely. If you suffer from one of these conditions, it is important that you visit a chiropodist regularly.

Children may also experience lower limb disorders. These tend to be of a mechanical nature, such as intoeing and flat feet.

Our State Registered Chiropodist offers treatments and foot health advice in the following areas :-
  • calluses and corns
  • nail care management, including nail surgery
  • veruccae
  • sports injury rehabilitation
  • footwear advice and modification
  • rheumatology
  • diabetes
  • biomechanics
  • childhood mechanical foot problems
  • orthotic therapy
Orthotics are devices prescribed for mechanical malalignment problems that can cause a variety of symptoms within the feet, legs and lower back. Worn in shoes, the orthoses aim to achieve better joint integrity within the foot, thereby promoting correct alignment and functioning of foot mechanics.

What Are The Professional Qualifications
And Code Of Practice?

To benefit from the best possible standard of care and expertise, you should ensure that your chiropodist or podiatrist is State Registered. All State Registered practitioners have the letters "SRCh" after their names.

State Registration is a standard set by the Government in accordance with the Health Professions Council. To achieve this standard, a chiropodist must have completed a three year full-time course leading to a BSc(Hons) degree in Podiatry.
